Pietra Perduca & Pietra Parcellara
Fascinating rocks formations in the Piacentino countryside
Rising abruptly from the rolling hills of the Trebbia Valley, Pietra Parcellara and its smaller companion Pietra Perduca are striking ophiolitic monoliths that look entirely out of place against the soft Emilian landscape. These dark, volcanic outcrops—remnants of an ancient oceanic crust—offer a rugged contrast to the surrounding vineyards and forests. While the towering Parcellara provides a challenging ascent with 360-degree views of the Apennines, Perduca is celebrated for its mystical atmosphere, featuring the ancient Oratory of Sant’Anna built directly into the rock and mysterious, water-filled basins carved into its summit that never run dry. Together, they form a geological duo that blends raw natural beauty with centuries of local spiritual history.
